Extranjera/o brings together a diverse group of Latin-X artists and creatives who share their unique perspectives on the theme of “no soy de aquí, ni soy de allá” – the feeling of not belonging fully to one place or another. These Artists narrate their stories through their artwork, portraying how the experience looks and feels to them.
Through various mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia installations, artists share their narratives of two cultures, two worlds, and two sets of expectations. The exhibition honors the resilience of Latin-X individuals who embrace their heritage while navigating the challenges of assimilation, all the while harboring the vivid memories of the places they left behind. “Extranjera/o” invites you to witness the creative expressions born from the collision of cultures and to feel the echoes of yearning for a home that exists between borders.
In essence, “Extranjera/o” is a timely and impactful exposition, illuminating the intricate mosaic of Latin-X identities and narratives.
